Cover for the Journal of Anatomy

My illustration on the subject of motor neurone disease has been used on the cover of this month's Journal of Anatomy. 

The idea is of a motor neuron 'tree' with the nerve endings (dendrites) forming the branches, the axon the trunk and the roots being formed by the terminal endings. I wanted to show the tree - usually something strong, natural and healthy, slowly deteriorating with the addition of a woodpecker pecking away at the neuron trunk, showing the damage in a gentle, subtle way. 

The image was originally created as a test piece for 'The Lancet' but was never used, so it's good to see it finally see the light of day!

Happy new year! Hope you had a good break over the festive season. Here's a little illustration I did for the January issue of Red magazine. The article is a regular column written by Rosie Green called 'Life's Rosie'. This month's theme is over-politeness - compulsive courtesy, waving at strangers just in case you know them, and pretending to remember someone when you simply can't place them and end up overcompensating....!

Bike owls in Japan!

My Bike owl tote bags have flown across the miles to Tokyo! They are being sold at Loft department store in Shibuya, as part of the Poundshop's pop up Christmas shop, open from 29th November - 5th January. If you're in the area, take a look....loads of great products for affordable prices! My totes are also available online. 

Three French hens

My Christmas card for this year is a graphic take on the three french hens from 'The Twelve days of Christmas'. The birds are featured decked out in the colours of the tricolore: red, white and blue. The cards are printed on a lovely quality gesso card and are priced at £2.00 each. They are available from my online shop and from notonthehighstreet. I will also be selling them at East London design show! 

East London Design Show

I am very excited to be exhibiting and selling my work at East London Design Show, opening next week. Come and find me at Stand 47 selling a range of prints, books, stationery, cards, tote bags and more. The show is held at the Old Truman Brewery off Brick Lane and opening hours are as follows:

Illustration for Nautilus Magazine

Here is my recent illustration for science magazine Nautilus, this month on the theme of waste. The story is about a prehistoric worm that lived in dinosaur faeces! The worm might have been a food source to our early ancestors during the great extinction, as it did not rely on sunlight to survive. I spent a happy few hours sketching dinosaur bones at the Natural history museum, but alas I could not find any actual fossilized poo, or indeed any pictures of the worm! So here is how I've imagined it, similar to an earthworm. You can read the article here.
